Description:
Created for speed, the Carrera 290 is a high-performance, trailerable racing yacht. Her fine "U" shaped bow sections, wide dish stern and minimum freeboard give the 290 a powerful, yet sleek appearance. Her torpedo-shaped bulb, high-aspect ratio keel and deep narrow rudder supply exceptional control, lift and stability. The 290's deck layout provides easy access for expedient sail-handling, precise crew positioning and minimal crew movement. All sail control lines are within easy reach of the crew. The rolled deck edge provides comfort for the crew and reduces windage. The curved mainsheet traveler maintains constant tension as the traveler is eased to leeward. Controls for the permanent backstay and runners are led forward for ease of control. The bilge pump and outboard engine bracket are easily accessible within the cockpit. The main cabin has comfortable bench seats and two aft quarterberths. There is also storage area beneath the cockpit to stow sails, outboard and miscellaneous gear. Options include a large V-berth forward with a deck hatch above and storage area for a portable toilet. The 290 is constructed with knitted bi-axial and uni-directional fiberglass incorporating a Klegecell foam core. The hull is vacuum-bagged to ensure the optimum strength to weight ratio. Vinylester exterior resin protects the hull from blistering. A unique internal structural grid system absorbs and dissipates keel and rigging loads throughout.
